Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.

Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.

Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
